Starting October 31, 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will begin using the Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) “Table 1: Life Table for the total population: United States, 2024” for Workers’ Compensation Medicare Set Aside (WCMSA) life expectancy calculations.

For any WCMSA proposal received by CMS through the voluntary review program, or where any WCMSA case is reopened on or after October 31st, the Workers’ Compensation Review Contractor will apply the CDC’s 2024 Table 1 for life expectancy calculations.

The announcement can be found on the What’s New page of the Workers’ Compensation Medicare Set Aside Arrangement section of CMS.gov.
