CMS Updates ICD-10 and ICD-9 Valid Code Lists for FY 2027

Today the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) published updated ICD-9 and ICD-10 valid and excluded code lists for fiscal year 2027, including the No-Fault Plan Type D exclusion indicators.
The diagnosis code lists are derived from ICD-10 diagnosis codes that CMS posts each year so that providers and suppliers utilize the applicable diagnosis codes when submitting medical claims to Medicare. CMS reviews ICD 10 codes annually to identify the codes that may be used for Section 111 NGHP Claim Input File Detail Record submissions.
This year’s notification arrived several months earlier than usual due to an apparent shift from calendar year updates to fiscal year updates. The code lists from last year’s update now show as effective through September 30, 2026.
